Friedrich Hegel, The Critical Philosophy
19 May 2018, by Robert Paris§40
In common with Empiricism the Critical Philosophy assumes that experience affords the one sole foundation for cognitions; which however it does not allow to rank as truths, but only as knowledge of phenomena.
The Critical theory starts originally from the distinction of elements presented in the analysis of experience, viz. the matter of sense, and its universal relations. Taking into account Humes’s criticism on this distinction as given in the preceding section, viz. that (...) -

The enormous interest shown in the study of Hegel by science in the Soviet Union is best justified in Lenin’s philosophical legacy:
’Modern natural scientists (if they know how to seek, and if we learn to help them) will find in the Hegelian dialectics materialistically interpreted a series (...) -
Hegel’s Lectures on the History of Philosophy
3 February 2015, by Robert ParisHegel’s Lectures on the History of Philosophy
Introduction
A. The Notion of the History of Philosophy.
THE thought which may first occur to us in the history of Philosophy, is that the subject itself contains an inner contradiction. For Philosophy aims at understanding what is unchangeable, eternal, in and for itself: its end is Truth. But history tells us of that which has at one time existed, at another time has vanished, having been expelled by something else. Truth is eternal; (...) -
Hegel and Schelling (1802) - The Critical Journal of Philosophy
11 November 2013, by Robert ParisIN WHATEVER DOMAIN OF ART or [speculative] science it is employed, criticism requires a standard which is just as independent of the person who makes the judgment as it is of the thing that is judged – a standard derived neither from the singular [i.e. the immediate occasion for critical judgment] nor from the specific character of the [judging] subject, but from the eternal and unchangeable model [Urbild] of what really is [die Sache selbst]. Just as the idea of fine art is not first (...)
